Hollingsworth and Vose Presents Check in Support of STEAM Library

December 21, 2023

The Learning Center for the Deaf graciously accepted a check from Hollingsworth and Vose (H&V) for $4,870 to support TLC students and staff. The money raised was from the H&V’s annual Ben Hollingsworth Memorial Ride and community fundraising efforts.

The annual Ben Hollingsworth Memorial Ride was established by Ben’s family, friends, and the USW Local 880 in memory of Ben Hollingsworth, a former TLC student who passed away on September 24, 2016, at the age of 22.

Proceeds from the ride and associated fundraising activities are donated in support of STEAM enrichment activities and materials to support student learning,

At the check presentation and reception, TLC Superintendent Glennis Matthews was excited to reveal the new Ben Hollingsworth STEAM Lending Library website to the H&V employees, Board member Val Hollingsworth, and longtime friend and volunteer Carol Hollingsworth.

The Lending Library is a resource available to TLC staff and students, focused on providing STEAM opportunities, ideas, and experiences in honor of Ben’s love for learning, including 3D Printers, coding robots, and science equipment.

Following the reception, H&V employees donated their time and talent to help wrap holiday presents for our Walden School and residential students on campus.

The Annual Ben Hollingsworth Memorial Ride typically occurs in September at the Stanley Frankzak Memorial baseball field in West Groton. After coffee and breakfast, Riders follow a 70-mile route through local communities, returning for a community picnic with hamburgers, hotdogs, a raffle, and kids' activities. Updates for 2024 can be found on the Ben Hollingsworth Memorial Ride Facebook page.
