Middle School is a period of personal growth and change and vast academic progress. Our overall goal is to graduate Middle School students who have strengthened their self esteem, and organizational skills further developed their personal level of maturity, and gained the academic skills which will prepare them for their high school years and their lives as independent adults. Along with the formal curriculum, Middle School students participate throughout the year in group projects such as school government, theatrical productions, and social studies and science fairs on the school, local and state level. These projects enhance the students' academic classes, encouraging them to take their learning out of the classroom and into a variety of arenas. Counseling is also an integral part of the Middle School program. Adolescence can be a very challenging period, and counseling options are made available to all students. Both group sessions and individual counseling are available if necessary. Teachers and counselors work together to meet the behavioral, social, and emotional needs of the students. Extra-curricular team sports are another important part of the Middle School program. Students are encouraged to join teams such as basketball, track, cheer leading, and soccer. Traveling and competing with various local private schools, as well as several schools for the Deaf, promotes sportsmanship and provides our students an opportunity to meet other adolescents from varied backgrounds. |
