Education Progam
Our Deaf Education Program provides an environment where communication is accessible to Deaf children through two options: American Sign Language (ASL) and/or sign supported spoken English (often referred to as Total Communication). Instruction is enhanced by written English, supportive visuals, fingerspelling, pantomime, gestures, and facial expression. Communication choices for each child are determined through ongoing dialogue with parents, staff, and students. The program emphasizes the recognition of each child as an individual with a unique learning style. Opportunities which encourage "hands-on," discovery-style learning enrich the academic curriculum. Our certified teachers bring to the classroom strong backgrounds in language acquisition, child development, curriculum, and current educational practices which support the Massachusetts Department of Education Curriculum Frameworks. Licensed Speech & Language Pathologists provide consultation to the classroom teachers and direct instruction to students.
