Program
The residential option is available for adolescent students ages 12 to graduation interested in developing or enhancing their communication, social and independent living skills. Residences are open each week during the regular school year from the end of the school day on Monday until Friday morning. Under the guidance of residential supervisors, students are directly responsible for the daily management of the household. Male and female students are housed in separate facilities, joining each other for activities and some meals. Afternoons are filled with sports or other supervised activities such as crafts, clubs or trips. Residents may also have part-time jobs in the community. Tutors are available during all four evenings, and there is a one and one-half to two-hour per night minimum of required study time. Daily communication between middle school, high school and residential staff through logs and E-mail ensure the coordination and individualization of each student’s program. Daily chores are shared by residents, and weekly meetings are held to make decisions and plans and to discuss mutual concerns. A school counselor is also available for group sessions when requested. With a predominately Deaf staff, awake overnight supervisors, coaches, tutors, counselors and a school nurse on hand, the themes of identity, safety, communication and culture are interwoven throughout the residential program. |
