Chris Kaftan began his educational career as a high school social studies teacher at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington, DC. While at MSSD, Chris taught a wide variety of classes, including developmental classes and Advanced Placement courses. Chris was also instrumental in establishing the Honors Program at the Clerc Center. After four years at MSSD, Chris went to work at the Maryland School for the Deaf for five years. During his time there, Chris was a high school social studies teacher and department chairperson. The last three years at MSD, Chris was the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, tasked with overseeing MSD's school curriculum, instruction, and assessments.
Chris received his bachelor's degree in secondary education and history and master's degree in deaf education, both from Gallaudet University. Chris also has an administrative degree in Special Education Supervision and Administration from Johns Hopkins University and is a licensed high school teacher and principal.
