On behalf of President and Executive Director Judy Vreeland,
we are pleased to announce that
has been appointed the new
ASSOCIATE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
of The Learning Center for the Deaf
Over the past 26 years, Karen Bishop has filled a variety of teaching and leadership roles at The Learning Center for the Deaf. From her early days as a teacher, to her current role as Director of the Walden School, Karen has been a highly respected key player in the evolution and growth of the organization. She brings a unique blend of finely honed teaching skills, administrative acumen, strategic thinking, and collaborative mindset to her new role as Associate Executive Director.
As we seek to replace Karen at Walden School, we have begun a national search to find a dynamic leader who will build on Walden School’s excellent reputation and ensure we continue providing the highest quality educational, therapeutic, and residential services for deaf and hard of hearing children and adolescents.
Walden School is our nationally recognized bilingual-bicultural therapeutic program that provides comprehensive treatment, educational, and residential services for deaf and hard of hearing children and adolescents between the ages of 8 to 22 and their families. Walden School students are challenged by severe social and emotional difficulties, and have significant treatment needs that have not been successfully addressed in other academic and residential settings.
Karen will remain full time at Walden School with all current duties until mid-October. A transition plan, including interim coverage at Walden School if needed, is currently being developed.
