The Learning Center for the Deaf (TLC) has welcomed Shira Grablesky as the Director of Education Initiatives.
TLC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sarah Glenn-Smith explains that the role will support the engagement from all of TLC’s constituents to conduct a full review of the organization’s education systems, staffing and processes, and work with the education teams to serve in an advisory and change agent role.
“Shira will support academics, family and community engagement, staff, and recruitment as we begin building toward a bright future for this coming school year,” Dr. Glenn-Smith said.
The position will also assist in the transition to a new Superintendent, and create a bridge of support for families, students and staff. Current Marie Philip School (MPS) Superintendent Jennifer Greenfield announced her resignation in March and will be leaving at the end of June. The Learning Center has partnered with Innivee Strategies to support the search process for a new Superintendent.
Shira has a Master’s Degree in Deaf Education from Boston University, and a Master’s in Education Policy and Management from Harvard University. She brings 13 years of professional experience in Deaf Education to TLC.
Most recently serving as Curriculum Specialist for New Mexico School for the Deaf, Shira helped develop and implement curriculum adoption strategies, including cross-sectoral collaborations with community groups. She also designed and provided professional development training and instructional coaching for teachers.
Prior to her work at New Mexico School for the Deaf, Shira worked at California School for the Deaf - Fremont, Horace Mann School in Allston, Mass., and Deaf Abused Women’s Network in Washington, DC.
Her participation in more than two dozen presentations and workshops cover a broad range of topics, including Deaf advocacy, mentorship, Anti-Bias education, Deaf identity and language access.
